  • Droitwich Theatre and Arts Club Ltd was set up in 1962 in order to combine the various dramatic societies in Droitwich Spa, and to set up and run an amateur theatre in the town. The current Friar Street theatre building was opened in February 1963. The Norbury Theatre is affiliated to NODA, The Little Theatre Guild of Great Britain (LTG), and is a Registered Charity.

The theatre is run by an elected "Council" taken from the membership. All adult members are eligible to vote at the AGM and to stand for a position on the "Council". There are several Committees who deal with every aspect of the running of the theatre, from Front of House to play selection to the upkeep of the fabric of the building. Every paid-up member is eligible to audition for any of our productions and all members receive audition notices to keep them informed Run entirely by volunteers, the theatre provides a full programme of productions throughout the year, both by its own members and by visiting groups, both Amateur and Professional.

The auditorium has 176 tiered seats, all with an unrestricted view of the stage. There is an orchestra pit below stage level and a reasonably large stage area. We also have 3 first-floor dressing rooms. We have an ample-sized Front of House area with wheelchair access, and can accommodate up to 3 wheelchairs per performance. We have a fully licensed Front of House bar and during performances we sell tea, coffee, confectionary and Bennetts and Walls ice cream in the foyer area.

We show films in addition to our live performances at the theatre. Thanks to a substantial gift from an anonymous donor, we purchased a brand new cinema screen and digital projector. Films are shown on Wednesday evenings. Full film listings, together with those for our theatre productions are available on this website.

  • During the season (September to May), the Norbury Theatre presents a double helping of "Children's Theatre" on the third Saturday of every month.

Two showings of each production are staged, beginning at 2.30pm and 4.00pm, with ice cream and a wide range of sweets on sale beforehand! Tickets are priced at just £1.50 and so it makes an ideal treat for youngsters to look forward to on a regular basis. These productions are short, small cast plays specially written and presented by adults for children aged 4 - 10. They take the form of mini-pantomimes in that they contain songs, slapstick-style humour, goodies, baddies, chases etc. They provide children with a perfect first step into theatre and they can make an excellent birthday treat!

The Norbury's small auditorium and proximity of the audience to the stage enhances the magical theatre experience for children of all ages and the performances are always very well-attended. Another popular feature of Children's Theatre is that the characters from the play often come out to meet and chat to the children in the foyer after the performance.
